Bond No 9’s Take On New York’s Beaches

Given the fast-paced life of the city, it’s easy to forget that there’s a part of New York that sits near the beaches. Beyond Wall Street and the upscale shops in 5th Avenue, New Yorkers can actually spend a weekend getaway to one of the beautiful beaches in NYC’s outermost neighborhoods. Forget the idea of spending money on travel just to experience the breezy ocean mist and sun bathing the old-fashioned way. The accessibility of work and pleasure in one place is akin to having the best of both worlds; suffice to say, there’s no need to leave the state for a decent rest and relaxation.

Inspired by the beaches in the outskirts of New York, Bond No 9 captured the scents that evoke memories of fun, the laid-back days and the precious moments spent with friends and family.

Fire Island
Fire Island, the 26th fragrance in Bond No 9’s collection, lets you experience sun-kissed skin, New York style. The niche fragrance house described it as, “The quintessential male-female beach-and-suntan scent, to wear all summer or to summon up the scent of musky, sun-baked skin.” This scent is as fiery as its name: at the beginning, the scent warms up with the spicy-sweet notes of cardamom then progresses into the fresh sweetness of neroli and white musk; the base conjures hints of the Mediterranean as tuberose, patchouli, honey, leather and musk provide a quasi-sensual appeal.

Decadent, bright and carnal, Fire Island is a well-crafted fragrance that tailors perfectly to the fun days at the beach. Some perfumistas who have worn the fragrance said that it reminded them of Coppertone without the oily scent. The white musk, in addition, balances the bronzed-up element of the fragrance. The carnal element emanates from the musk accords hinting a subtle animalistic desire - memories of sex on the beach, perhaps?

Hamptons
The Hamptons is traditionally considered one of the most affluent parts of New York. By definition, The Hamptons refers to the South Fork of Long Island east of the Shinnecock Canal. Bond No 9 captured the essence of the salt-sea mist of this core vacation area and named the fragrance “Hamptons”, to pay homepage to this beautiful place in New York.

Hamptons, like Fire Island, is a shared fragrance. The combination of lush florals and woody musk creates a creamy ocean mist scent. The opening is citrusy; lime and lemon are very apparent at first sniff. The intermingling of the florals in the middle (Turkish rose, jasmine, magnolia) puts you in a state of summer sunshine. The woodier base of the fragrance creates a more masculine appeal. On the overall, this is a nice crisp fragrance, a masterpiece in its own right.

Bond No 9 sets the stage in creating scents about New York’s neighborhoods. The New York beaches collection is a product of Bond No 9’s venture into the beach-inspired fragrances.
