Some common reasons why men suffer baldness

There is nothing more stressful to a man or woman, than noticing large amounts of hair on the brush or in the bath after a hair wash or shower. Perhaps baldness is the thing most dreaded by men, although psychologically it is women who suffer the most.

Strangely it was once thought to be linked to mid-life crises, but this thought process has changed as greater numbers of men in their twenties have suffered male hair loss. The causes and reasons behind hair loss are many, and the effects can damage self-esteem and self-confidence. It is best to know as much as you can about hair loss, so that you are prepared to handle it if and when it occurs.

Hair normally grows in a cycle of 2 to 6 years, which suggests a cyclical pattern: some hair grows, some is resting while some falls out. It is perfectly natural to allow for the germination of new hair, but if this happens too much then it becomes unnatural.

Possibly the imbalance of hormones caused by thyroid problems is the most common reason for hair loss. The imbalance of the hormone Androgen caused by overactive thyroid glands can result in hair loss for men. Those suffering with underactive thyroid glands can often suffer the same devastating symptoms.

Medicines can also be the main culprits for thinning hair. If you are using anticoagulants for thinning the blood, medicine to alleviate gout, chemotherapy or an excessive use of vitamin A, all these can lead to the thinning hair. There are some hair loss products on the market that can help ot aleviate the problem, and noticably reduce the amount of thinning.

Alopecia Universalis normally appears without any kind of warning signs. Symptoms can reveal themselves in small areas of missing hair on the scalp. A few years ago when I had a beard, I noticed what at first was a small patch which gradually expanded over time. First of all I laughed, then I became irritated and finally I had to shave the beard off for embarrassment. Many with this condition, as in the example, suffer temporarily and usually make a full recovery of the problem area. The sign that permanent damage has happened could be the fact that recovery is not noticable after a few months.
