Summer-ize Your Wardrobe with Plus Size Shorts
If you’re a plus size woman, the idea of wearing a pair of plus sized shorts could seem like a very unappealing one. That describes me perfectly! For the longest time, the only females I could think of who legitimately looked decent wearing shorts were either athletes or very slim super models. Luckily, plus size designers have been paying attention, and now flattering styles of shorts and swim wear are available.
Recently, there are a wide offering of stores to go to when it comes to full figure swimwear and clothing. Everything from maternity clothing to juniors and teens sizes is now offered in the plus size and full figure genre. However, summer time staples such as swim suits and shorts haven’t quite seen their day. The fabulous news is that stores including Torrid, Lane Bryant and Avenue (among others) are now allowing us a diverse range of styles for every season and budget.
When it comes to plus size shorts, the most important things to factor (besides fit) are length and style. Keeping in mind that rounder figures typically have curvier thighs and hips, a longer length in the shorts is preferred. For more modest options, plus sized capris or cropped pants are an excellent in between compromise.
For the most flattering look, go with shorts that do not have embellishments or distractions; a flat front is always best. In particular, pleats should be avoided because these can add the illusion of extra bulk. Flat front shorts in solid colors offer the most flattering look over all. A nice pair of shorts will match perfectly with your favorite tops, blouses and tee shirts as well. Plus size skirts are another pretty option. Once again, a longer skirt is the most flattering style. Mini skirts are not as flattering, so a skirt that hits at your knee or longer is your best option.
Get ready to sizzle this summertime in trendy and flattering plus size swim suits and shorts!
