Hair Styling Gel
Why Should I Choose a Hair Styling Gel?
If you’re relatively new to hair styling products, or even if you’re not, you may be not familiar with a hair styling gels. Is a hair styling
gel really that different from a hairspray? If you’re in need of gel information, we will give you a quick tutorial.
The way in which a gel is administered is quite different than that of a hair spray. While a spray is sprayed directly onto the hair wherever
you choose, a gel is applied usually by hand. Typically, one would take a small amount of the product, run it in their hands evenly, and
apply to the area that needs gel. The amount you use depends on the gel and the level of hold required.
The nice thing about a gel is that you have more control on where the product goes, rather than a hairspray. With hair gel, you could isolate
one small strand of hair, whereas with spray you are covering more area, a bit at random. This is a major “pro” to using a hair gel. One
“con” is that often users will use too much gel, which in turn weighs down the hair and makes it difficult to style, thus defeating the purpose
of the hair styling gel.
For successful use of hair styling gels, stick with the theory that “less is more”. Try a small amount of
gel- you can always add more after. If you are trying to get volume in your hair, be sure to apply the gel first to your roots, then work it
through the hair. Don’t weigh down the hair too much. There are of course different types of hair styling gels, all formulated for what
type of hair or how strong a hold you need.
How do you know if hair styling gel is the right for you? You need to decide what you wish to do with your hair- what style are you trying to
achieve? If you have short hair and aspire for a spikey look, you’ll benefit from a strong hold gel. If you have curly hair and are hoping
to make the most of your curls, look for something that doesn’t weigh down and flatten your curls- rather, look for something that defines them
and enhances the curl.
Often finding the type of hair styling gel that works best for you can be a little bit of trial and error. Whichever type of gel you
decide to try, find a type that gives a bit of flexibility and doesn’t flake if and when you brush it. You’ll find that you love the hold that
hair gel can give you in maintaining your hair style.
